Open Outlook Express.
If you see a "Set up a Mail account..." link on the opening screen, continue with the steps in the solution under the heading "Set Up Outlook Express with the Internet Connection Wizard".
If you do not see a "Set up a Mail account..." link, then Outlook Express has already been used or configured on this computer (even though it may not be set up for your account yet), and you should follow the instructions in the solution "Set up my email address in Outlook Express”.
1. Open Outlook Express if it is not already open.
2. Click on the Set up a Mail account... link.
3. Click Create a new Internet mail account.
4. Click Next.
5. In the field titled Display Name, enter your name as you would like it to appear in the From field of each e-mail you send.
6. Click Next.
7. Select I already have an e-mail address that I'd like to use.
8. Enter your Birch e-mail address.
9. Click Next.
10. Click the down arrow to display the drop-down box. Select POP3.
11. Enter pop.birch.net as your incoming mail server.
12.Enter smtp.birch.net as your Outgoing mail server.
13. Click the Next button.
14. In the Account Name box, enter your e-mail address.
15. Enter your Password in the next field. You will not see your password as you type. Asterisks(*) will appear for each character entered to keep the password hidden.
16. Make sure the Logon using Secure Password Authentication is NOT selected.
17. Click Next.
18. Click Finish to save your account settings.

1. Open Outlook Express if it is not already open. Click on the
Tools
menu.
2. Select Accounts from the menu to open the
Internet Accounts
dialog box.
3. Select the
Mail
tab.
4. Click
Add.
5. Select
Mail
from the menu.
6. In the field titled

button.
15. In the
Account Name
box, enter your User ID. Your User ID is all the letters to the left of @birch.net.
16. Enter your
Password
in the next field. You will not see your password as you type. Asterisks (*) will appear for each character entered to keep the password hidden.
17. Make sure the
Logon using Secure Password Authentication
is
NOT
selected.
18. Click
Next.
19. Click
Finish
to save your account settings.
