Windows ME dial-up configuration instructions

  • Double click on My Computer .




 

  • Double click on Control Panel.

  • Double click on Dial-Up Networking.

  • Double click on Make New Connection.


  • In the field Type a name for the computer you are dialing, type Birch.net, and click the Configure button.




  • Now you will be asked for a phone number to dial in to. Leave the area code blank, and input the local access number for your area.

  • Click Finish.






  • Right Click once on the Birch.net icon.

  • Left Click once on Properties.






 

  • You will see the dial in phone number and below that a box that says Use area code and Dialing Properties, remove the check from this box. Click on the Networking tab.

  • Make sure only Enable software compression at the top is checked, and TCP/IP at the bottom is checked. Click on the TCP/IP Settings button.




  • Make sure that the following are checked. Server assigned IP address, Server assigned name server addresses, Use IP header compression, and Use default gateway on remote Network .




  • Click on Create a Shortcut, you will get a window that says you cannot create a shortcut here, do you want to put this on your desktop? Click Yes. Close the Dial-Up Networking window.




  • Your computer is ready to connect to the internet.
